The rich history of the Slovenian capital matches the richness of its tourist attractions. The city has been subjected to various rulers, which include ancient Roman, French, Austrian, and eventually the Serbians. This is perhaps the reason why the old town became a blend of Baroque, Renaissance, and Art Nouveau buildings. Many of the beautiful structures of Ljubljana wouldn't have been built had it not been for the genius of the famous architect Jože Plečnik. The National & University Library is among his first masterpieces while Plečnik House pays tribute to his life and works.
