    Charles Crichton. Director: A Fish Called Wanda. Director Charles Crichton's film career began as an editor in 1935 with Alexander Korda's London Films, and in that capacity he worked on such productions as Sanders of the River (1935), Things to Come (1936) and Elephant Boy (1937) (which introduced Sabu to movie audiences).
    For his final film, the acclaimed comedy A Fish Called Wanda (1988), Crichton was nominated for both the Academy Award for Best Director and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay (along with the film's star John Cleese ). Charles Ainslie Crichton was an English film director and editor.
    Michael Crichton is best known as the author of THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, a science-fiction novel which was made into a successful motion picture in 1970. He has since written other novels that have been adapted to the screen and has gradually been drawn into filmmaking himself, both as a screenwriter and director.
