Hakkinen was Schumacher's main rival in the late 1990s, winning the drivers' title in 1998 and 1999 with McLaren, and engaging in several close battles with Schumacher on and off the track.
Alonso ended Schumacher's dominance in the mid-2000s, winning the drivers' title in 2005 and 2006 with Renault, and edging out Schumacher in a tense finale in 2006. Alonso also challenged Schumacher's records and reputation in his later years with Ferrari and McLaren.
Hamilton emerged as a sensation in his debut season in 2007, finishing second to Kimi Raikkonen by one point, and beating his McLaren teammate Alonso. Hamilton went on to win his first title in 2008, and later equalled and surpassed Schumacher's records in wins, poles, podiums, and titles with Mercedes.
Raikkonen was Schumacher's teammate at Ferrari in 2007 and 2009, and his successor as the team's leader in 2007-2009. Raikkonen won the drivers' title in 2007 by beating Hamilton and Alonso in a thrilling finale, and also challenged Schumacher in his earlier years with McLaren and Sauber.
Hill was Schumacher's first major rival in Formula One, as the leader of the Williams team that dominated the early 1990s. Hill and Schumacher had several controversial clashes, most notably at the 1994 and 1995 title deciders, with Schumacher coming out on top both times. Hill finally won the title in 1996, after Schumacher left for Ferrari.
